Read MoreBuilding off the momentum from Mollusk San Francisco, Chris Gentil and Michael Machemer decided to expand to the East Coast. With its congested streets and urban landscape, New York City isn’t considered a destination for surfers, but this didn’t deter Gentil and Machemer from setting up shop in Brooklyn. With industrial Williamsburg as its backdrop, Mollusk quickly established a community of surfers and artists with its welcoming atmosphere. The shop specializes in hand-shaped boards by Anderson, Rainbow, Mandala and many others. You can also find accessories for your board, classic surf dvds and t-shirts from artists like Barry McGee, Thomas Campbell and Geoff McFetridge, all of whom are fans of the shop. Movies are also periodically screened on the large oil tanks across the street from the store.
