One stop shop is not necessarily the phrase you want to hear when it comes to buying a home. However, in The Brooklyn Home Company’s case, it may not be a bad idea. T.B.H.Co is a family-run cooperative of artists and builders specializing in real estate development, design and build general contracting and architectural design consulting. Their aesthetic is a cross between Modern and rustic, merging the best of both worlds, clean lines with a mix of raw materials. Exposed bricks, natural light, and a generous use of wood are design signatures from T.B.H.Co. Their projects are distinctive enough to be stylized but not so much so that you can’t add your own style to them. In a market full of shoddy new development, The Brooklyn Home Company’s properties stand out in quality and taste.

As part of the Pacific Standard Time exhibition, David John from You Have Been Here Sometime has been tapped by Los Angeles Modern Auctions (LAMA) to create an environment surrounding the collection of Richard Dorso. Dorso was a TV executive, boutique owner and an avid collector that include works from California artist like Ed Ruscha, John Baldessari, Charles Arnoldi, John McCracken, and many others. From this collection John will design a room that will “bring together the past and present, shining a light on how Modern Art and Design is viewed in today’s current art and interiors scene.” This interior showcase will be on view for three weeks starting on September 19 and will conclude with an auction of the entire collection.

Oswald's Mill

The interior to Oswald's Mill located in Eastern Pennsylvania

Photo: Oswald's Mill

Jonathan Weiss is a man that has followed his passion in life and made it into a career. After renovating a loft in Brooklyn where he lived and shot his feature length film he came upon a derelict mill in rural Pennsylvania. Approximately two hours outside of Manhattan, the four story building was nearly in ruins. Nonetheless, he saw the potential in it and for the next decade he spent his time renovating the structure to the point at which it is now, a fully functional 10,000 square feet mill. He uses it to host his annual Speaker Tastings, a gathering of audiophiles showcasing their latest creations. For the most part, The Mill is rented out for photo shoots, but if it’s not quite what you’re looking for, he offers location scouting in the surrounding region. Weiss is also a chef and offers catering services for your shoots. All of this appears to be enough for one person but it’s not enough for Weiss. He also owns Oswaldsmill Audio, a company specializing in hand made audio equipment that include turntables, speakers, and amps. A man that wears many hats, all of which seem to fit perfectly fine. Thanks Daniel for the heads up.

John and Linda Meyers of Wary Meyers

John and Linda Meyers are the husband and wife team behind Wary Meyers, a company specializing in a diverse range of art and design projects from paintings and illustrations to interior design and soft sculptures. They left the big city for Portland Maine in 2004 and have been working with clients large and small since. In addition to their work, the couple run a blog that is remarkably addictive, cataloging many of their vintage gems which are sometimes found in the most unusual places (dumpsters) and purchased for the most ridiculous prices (free). What I wouldn’t give to watch a show about this couple. They would give Mike and Frank a run for their money.

Deitch Takes Hollywood

"Jeffrey Deitch Takes Hollywood"

Photo: Nowness

One has to wonder when Jeffrey Deitch will have his own television show after watching this video (“Jeffrey Deitch Takes Hollywood”) on Nowness. If he hasn’t been approached already, it will probably happen soon. A former fixture of the downtown art scene in New York, Deitch has fully embraced the LA lifestyle and the glamour of old Hollywood. He boastfully notes that Carey Grant once lived in the Spanish revival house he now calls home. As he walks us through the empty house he occasionally stops, and like a guide on an art walk, gives us information on a particular piece. Furniture is secondary, aside from the flourishes of the details from the interior, this might as well be a gallery. Deitch has always been a ringleader and a showman, now with Hollywood as his playground it will be interesting to see how he’ll merge the art world with the celebrity world.
