The merging of food and design always interests us. So it’s exciting to see creative thinkers like Marije Vogelzang leading this relatively new field. A dutch product designer formally trained at the Design Academy in Eindhoven, Vogelzang finds pleasure in the impermanence of her edible works. Her conceptual meals and food products have caught the attention of large corporations like BMW and L’Oreal, where she’s been asked to lend her talents in serving unusually unique meals. Gestalten TV recently interviewed Vogelzang about one of her works in which she cooks vegetables, primarily rooted ones, in clay. It’s all about the origins of the meal, both coming from the ground. The clay is shattered and used for compost, where it eventually returns to its source, the earth.
