George Lois’s contributions to Esquire magazine spanned a decade and in that time art directed some of the most memorable covers. In an age when magazines were not muddled by cover lines, Lois had the ability to create powerful messages through striking photo manipulation. A new book has been published by Assouline, bringing together many of the Esquire covers that MoMA acquired in 2008 as well as never before seen outtakes. The Ace will be hosting the book launch this evening with Alex Calderwood, Kim Hastreiter from Paper Magazine and Ruben & Isabel Toledo. RSVP at georgeloisrsvp@papermag.com.
